Preschool Care and Learning

At Early Discoveries Center our preschool program for children ages three to five focuses on preparing children to be life-long learners. In class groups of 17 or fewer, children are encouraged to develop socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically in healthy ways. Our preschool program features the The Creative Curriculum®.

The Creative Curriculum® is a nationally recognized and proven preschool curriculum focused on developing the social and emotional skills in young children so that they will be successful in school and life. Loving and skilled teachers guide children in developing early skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts and technology. Indoor and outdoor activities and play areas further enhance the learning and growing environment.

The most important goals of our preschool curriculum are for children to get along well with others and to become enthusiastic learners. We want children to become independent, self-confident, curious learners who can work well with others. We’re teaching them how to learn, not just in preschool, but all through their lives. We do this by creating purposeful and productive play experiences that help children grow in all areas.

Our curriculum identifies goals in four areas of development:

Heart Bullet Social/emotional: to help children develop independence, self confidence, and self control, follow rules and routines, make friends, and learn what it means to be part of a group.

Heart Bullet Physical: to increase children’s large muscle skills – balancing, running, jumping, throwing and catching – and use the small muscles in their hands to do tasks like buttoning, stringing beads, cutting, drawing, and writing.

Heart Bullet Cognitive: to acquire thinking skills such as the ability to solve problems, to ask questions, and to think logically – sorting classifying, comparing, counting, and making patterns – and to use materials and their imagination to show what they have learned.

Heart Bullet Language: to use words to communicate with others, listen to and participate in conversations with others, understand the purpose of print, recognize letters and words, and begin writing for a purpose.*

At Early Discoveries Center our loving and skilled preschool teachers identify each child’s interests and select toys and materials, organize activities, and engage in conversation guided by this knowledge of individual interests and needs.

At Early Discoveries Center we maintain an open door policy. Parents are welcome to call anytime to see how a child is doing and to visit a child anytime throughout the day.

Daily lesson plans and teachers are available to inform parents about the children’s day.

Teachers and Assistant Teachers are able to discuss your child’s day and how they are progressing. Twice yearly you will get a progress report from your child’s teacher to use a basis for fostering dialogue on your child’s emerging and developing skills.
